To keep up with the change in this highly volatile and ever changing environment, it has become necessary that the industry has the latest equipments for the production and manufacture of the fabric and also that the executives are equipped with the knowledge and understanding of the technology used, integrated vertical processes and leadership. The field covers different areas of engineering such as mechanical, electrical, computer, chemical, instrumentation, electronic and structural engineering. Apparel and fashion technology, a part of textile technology has become an important activity in the design, fashion and marketing of garments. All this requires knowledge of latest technology and the present day textile-design students are poised to take up the challenge. The knitwear and process sectors are witnessing change in a big way.
The course focuses mainly on the manufacture of the textile product which is the key to the fibre, textile and the apparel industry. Once the students acquire an understanding of the various textile manufacturing processes and products, they can choose to specialize/ do higher studies (postgraduate program/PhD/Research and Development) in the following areas:

* Apparel Technology
* Textile material research
After engineering once can join as a technical services assistant in a textile plant, sales engineer, quality control trainee in a manufacturing unit/facility, assistant designer in a design studio or in a CAD design lab, stylist (fashion designer) in a showroom or a design studio/CAD lab, product development executive in a showroom/studio or lab, fabric development executive in a plant or lab or showroom.
After pursuing higher studies in the chosen specialized field one can even enter the teaching profession, work in R & D lab, become a textile design manager or a product development manager in a plant or showroom or a lab.
The salary for a fresh textile engineer ranges between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 depending on their skills, knowledge and merit. If one holds a post graduate degree or even a specialization the remuneration and benefits increases depending on the field and expertise.
